Information on Music at The Most Holy Redeemer

The Most Holy Redeemer Church has a fine history of music over many decades.  It has two choirs, a Youth Music group, and a number of other musicians who regularly play in the church.

The 9am Choir, under the direction of Kathy Underhill, is fairly traditional in its approach.  It rehearses at 8pm in the church on most Thursday evenings.  For many years the choir was directed by the late Arthur Sparke who built up a large repertoire of pieces.  Kathy Underhill, who became Parish Director of Music in 2004, has continued this legacy.  All age groups and voices are welcome within the SATB choir and men are always most welcome!  In recent times young people have started to play an increasing role within both the choir and the liturgy of the Mass, something that the choir is keen to encourage.  If you would like more details please contact Kathy via office@mostholyredeemer.org.uk

In contrast, the 11am Choir, under the direction of Miriam Parker and Mary Porter, has a more modern outlook to its music.  Previously the choir had been directed by Beryl Barr, however, in July 2006 Beryl stepped down after many years of dedicated service.  The choir rehearses at 7pm for an hour in the church on most Thursday evenings.  Once a month it leads the Parish Children’s Mass where children are encouraged to sing and play various parts of the Mass.  Again, all age groups and voices are welcome within this choir.  For details please contact Miriam and Mary via office@mostholyredeemer.org.uk

The Youth Music Group was formed in April 2002 by Mark Nuttall and Jenny Atkins.  It leads both the music and liturgy at the five Youth Masses that are normally held at 6pm on Saturdays or 5pm on Sundays throughout the academic year.  All young parishioners from Year 8 upwards are welcome to take part in both the Masses and the preparation meetings.  Each December the Group also take part in the Parish Carol Service.  For more details please click on the "Youth Matters @ The MHR" link in the left hand column of this page.  Alternatively, why not contact Mark and Jenny via office@mostholyredeemer.org.uk
