EIGHTEENTH SUNDAY OF YEAR B                    5th AUGUST 2012

Dear friends,

God the Father always shows concern for his people and provides for them in their great need. Having rescued the people of Israel from slavery, God is with them in their journey to the Promised Land, and feeds them with quail and manna in the wilderness (Ex 16:12-15). This feeding is much more than a mere satisfying of hunger. It is one aspect of the covenant relationship between God and his people and is a sign and promise of his abiding concern.

Our deepest wants are spiritual first of all. We long to be accepted, loved and fulfilled. We seek peace and happiness. But if we are seeking happiness from this world alone, we shall always remain unsatisfied because we are created in God’s image as spiritual beings. God is the only source of human happiness. You have made us and directed us toward yourself and our heart is restless until we rest in you (St Augustine). Our profoundest aspirations are for the things of the Spirit, for the things of heaven, for the food that endures to eternal life (John 6:27).

Jesus knows our deepest hopes and needs. He is the living bread that alone can fill us spiritually and emotionally. He forgives, accepts and loves us. He offers us his friendship, entering our hearts to be our peace and consolation. Every desire of the human heart is met in him. As we believe that Jesus alone is the bread of life and approach him in confidence and faith, he will satisfy our hunger and quench our thirst. But we should give up our old way of life and put aside our old self and be renewed by a spiritual revolution (Ephesians 4:21-24).

Jesus, you are the bread of life. My heart finds contentment and rest in you alone. In faith I feed upon you, as the living Word of God and as the life-giving bread of the Eucharist. Fill me with yourself and satisfy my heart’s desires.

May your faith be strong and your life filled with hope and love, and may God bless and protect you all. Fr. Dariusz.

READERS More Readers are needed especially at 5pm, 6pm Masses and 11am. If you can read aloud well and are willing to develop your understanding of scripture, it may be that you are being called to this Ministry. You need to commit firmly in advance to the dates and times when you would be available. There are no fixed age limits or qualifications, except that all regular Readers have to be approved by the Parish Priest. Please contact the Parish Office on 01277 624891 or email: office@mostholyredeemer.org.uk.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY Does your child attend one of our Parish Liturgy Groups? Can you spare one hour every half term? The current team are desperate for new volunteers. There has been a poor response to previous pleas and the only way to ensure the groups continue to run weekly (term time only) is for more recruits. Help is needed for the 9am toddler group (babies to pre-school) and the school age group (Reception up to year 3). The liturgy groups enable children to participate in the celebration of Mass at a level they understand and enjoy. Each week a different 'theme' is discussed (you will be provided with the information). If you are able to help or would like to attend a session before committing, please contact Tricia Murphy 01277 633964, email: triciamur2@talktalk.net. All volunteers will be asked to complete a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.
