THEASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY 14.08.2011 Dearfriends,Today’s feast of theAssumption of our Lady is a day of joy. God has won. Love has won. Ithas won life. Love has shown that it is stronger than death, that Godpossesses the true strength and that his strength is goodness andlove. Mary was taken up bodyand soul into Heaven. It is no longer a very remote sphere unknown tous. We have a mother in Heaven. And the Mother of the Son of God isour Mother. He made her our Mother when he said to the disciple andto all of us: “Behold, your Mother!” Mary is Queen of Heavenand earth. While she lived on this earth she could only be close to afew people. Being in God, who is close to us, actually, “within”all of us, Mary shares in this closeness of God. Being in God andwith God, she is close to each one of us, knows our hearts, can hearour prayers, can help us with her motherly kindness and has beengiven to us, as the Lord said, precisely as a “mother” to whom wecan turn at every moment. Our Lady has beenexalted, and so we rejoice because we too will be exalted. We willjoin her in the praise of heaven. She waits for us with open arms. She prays for us as only a mother can. She so wants us to reach thejoys of heaven. Remember, O mostloving Virgin Mary, that it is a thing unheard of, that anyone everhad recourse to your protection, implored your help, or sought yourintercession, was left forsaken. Filled therefore with confidence inyour goodness I fly to you, O Mother, Virgin of virgins. To you Icome, before you I stand, a sorrowful sinner. Despise not my poorwords, O Mother of the Word of God, but graciously hear and grant myprayer. May God bless andprotect you all, and may Mary help you to find the path of her Sonevery day. Fr.
